Why I Love the Beach

Happy Monday friends,

So sorry for the late upload! After watching England scoring six goals in yesterday's World Cup match and my laptop charger finally giving up, I completely forgot yesterday was even Sunday at all! I must be going crazy. Anyway, we're back on track now and we can get on with this week's blog post. After our recent trip to Destin, Florida, I wanted to talk about why I really love the beach and what makes it such a happy place for me.

Beach On the Brain

I don't know what exactly it is about beaches that seem to make all my woes drift magically away. Maybe it's the calm and constant sound of the waves washing away people's footprints, or the cool sea breeze fighting the burning sun, or the slightly salty smell of the air. Whatever it is, I love it. I feel so at peace when I'm at the beach. Every worry I had before, seems to shrivel up like a raisin as soon as my toes hit the sand, and they become so insignificant and trivial in the big scheme of things. With lots of time to think in this relaxing setting, it makes me take a step back, assess my anxieties, and really put things into perspective. I feel like the beach is almost the reset button for my mind!

Beach Books over Beach bums

The beach, to me, also means time to read. The repetitive whooshing of the waves provides the perfect background for my inner voice as I read. I feel like I can focus more on what I'm reading at the beach, rather than in my bedroom or somewhere else surrounded by constant distractions. On this particular trip I read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, which was a lovely read, until the kind of disappointing and heartbreaking end (At least you're prepared now if you do read the book!).

Mermaid's Menu

Another thing the beach means to me is great seafood! Being on the coast means that every fish/shellfish dish just tastes that much more fresh as if it was plucked from the ocean that day (which I guess it might well have been!). I filled my week with fresh tuna sushi, scallop sliders, crab crusted cod, and coconut covered shrimp, oh my! We ate like mermaid queens!

Vacay Runway

With fashion in mind, I also love the beach because it provides a new environment, which in turn provides new outfit challenges and inspirations! You have to think about outfits that you'll look amazing in but still stay cool, what shoes to wear on the beach, which swimsuits are both flattering and express your style, and accessories like hats and sunglasses become essential to each outfit. Going to the beach gets you out of your 'jeans and a t-shirt' rut for a while and makes you really think about what you're wearing again!

As always, thank you for taking the time to read another one of my blog posts. Comment down below what you're favorite thing about the beach is! I hope you enjoyed reading what my favorite things about the beach were and be sure to comment down below if you would like to see any specific blog posts in the future. I'd love to hear your suggestions. Special thank you to the lovely and generous, June, for taking us on this amazing and relaxing beach trip! It was such a wonderful holiday!
