Denim on Denim

Good morning everyone,

This summer, I've been channeling my inner Justin Timberlake circa 2001, with denim on denim (cringey!).  Surprisingly though, I'm enjoying rocking it and slowly learning how to make it work.

The key to the denim on denim look is to either completely match your denims, like I did here, or  contrasting them.

Matchy Matchy

Wearing matchy denims comes across almost as a suit set.  Be sure they have the same level of distressing and fading as well.   See my favorite blogger, Megan Ellaby's, version of matching denim here.

Compare & Contrast

This is the easier route to take, so if you're a little nervous about denim overload, start with contrasting denims.  Go for a dark denim jean with a lighter wash jacket or chambray shirt, or vice versa.

Keep it Simple

Don't forget to keep it simple underneath and with your accessories, especially with matching denim.  The denim 'suit' speaks for itself, so you don't need to go OTT with the other elements of your outfit.  Play it cool  and keep it simple!

For my denim on denim look, I was inspired by my grandfather's vintage Levi's jacket.  My mom found it in her closet and gave it to me a few weeks ago.  Apparently, he bought it in the 60s or 70s and loved it.  Then, when my mom was around her twenties, like me, she started borrowing it, and that's how it came into my possession!  I'm so in love with it, and the tradition behind it just makes it that much more special!

To go with it, I found some jeans at Miss Selfridge that match perfectly and have a lovely frayed hem.  I then paired it with my Fiorelli mini backpack and white adidas tennis shoes.  For under the jacket, I experimented with a couple of tops, but I think I liked the white shirt/blouse T.J. Maxx the best.

Have I converted you to a denim addict too?  Let me know in the comments if you're going to give denim on denim a go yourself! Thank so much reading this week's blog!  If you have any suggestions or requests for future posts, leave me a comment below!  If you want to see more of my travels and adventures in Ireland and England, check me out on Instagram!
