Take Your Tartan into Spring

Happy Sunday pals,

How are you doing on this bright and sunny Sunday? I’ve been having a chilled one today, but I went out early this morning to enjoy the sun (just started using the Couch to 5k app to start running…it wasn’t easy but easier than expected so I’ll keep you updated). Friday night I went to an art exhibit opening with my friend, Vincenza, and yesterday, I walked around Shoredtich and made some orange scones, so it’s been quite a nice and relaxing weekend.

We all know by now that I’m a huge fan of tartan, and I try to incorporate it wherever and whenever I can. Of course, I didn’t want to bid the pattern adieu with the coming of spring and the inevitable packing away of big scarves and wool trousers, so I’ve found a few ways to bring it right into spring. Below are the ways I’ll be incorporating tartan, aka plaid, into my warmer weather looks.

Pick a Spring Shade

An easy trick to taking this lovely pattern from autumn all the way into spring, is to choose a colour that reflects the season. I chose pale blue in this particular case. Opt for brighter lighter shades like pale pinks, blues, and greens, instead of dark maroons or forest greens.

Go for a Lighter weight Fabric & Style

I recommend swapping your plaid coat for a tartan skirt or similar spring appropriate piece. The more lightweight the fabric, the more spring appropriate a piece becomes, so think cottons or linen. Also chose a more spring-appropriate style, instead of a heavy scarf or knit.

Let’s Talk Tailoring

Tailoring is a great way to take tartan into spring. A blazer, for example, is a great piece for layering over your look like a cardigan and still get your check fix. I’ve seen some gorgeous new check blazers on the scene, so I definitely recommend picking one up if you don’t already own one.

Small Doses

Adding tartan into your spring wardrobe in small doses, like through your accessories, works really well too. Maybe try a plaid headband or a check clutch. These little pieces don’t hint too much towards the cooler months since they’re not overwhelming your entire look.

Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. Comment down below if you’re planning to try tartan this spring. I know it can sometimes be an intimidating pattern, unlike polka dots or stripes, but you should definitely give it a go. There’s a plaid out there for everyone. As you know, I’m a huge fan of the pattern and I also styled checks in a spring look for this blog post. You can shop my particular outfit below if you were eyeing up any of the pieces. I’m in love with this skirt, so definitely give it a go if you like skirts as well. Special thank you to my friend, Jade, for taking these lovely photos in Paris for me. Be sure to check back again next week for a new post and in the meantime, follow me on my social media, especially Instagram! I’m trying to get up to 4k, so please give me a follow if you haven’t already. It would mean the world! Anyway, have an amazing week!
