Why You Should Shop Vintage: A Bag with a Story

Happy Sunday friends,

Hope you’ve all had a lovely Sunday. I’ve spent the weekend in Newcastle with my brother and Felicia, which was a lovely reminder of the fun times we had during the first lockdown. I’ve missed them so much. We went on some lovely chilly walks, drank some festive drinks, did a bit of baking, and ate some delish food. Wish I could’ve stayed for longer.

Anyway, on to this week’s blog post, which was inspired by this lovely little green bag. I got this bag nearly a year ago at a Christmas fundraiser put on by a care home. I saw the little bag and it reminded me of the popular brand Bottega Venetta’s styles. Only later did I find out that it was actually my cousins’ grandmother’s bag. She told me that she had matching heels at one point and it was real leather. She seemed so happy that it was going to someone she knew and it made the purchase even more special to me of course. As we’re coming upon the holiday season, I wanted to talk about the benefit of shopping vintage. I’ve briefly discussed the benefits of shopping small and second-hand, but I think it’s important to remind us of the beauty of shopping vintage.

Supports Individuality

Wearing vintage pieces helps you create a more unique style, as people won’t be able to copy you. I recommend incorporating vintage finds into your wardrobe for a more exciting and individual sense of style. I know the likelihood of me running into someone with the same bag is little to none.

Help the Planet

As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, shopping vintage and secondhand is a great way to help out the planet. Rather than encouraging big brands to produce more new clothes, shopping vintage uses clothing that is already on the planet. It’s the recycling of the fashion world!

Quality Over Quantity

Vintage pieces are often of much better quality and will last the test of time longer than pieces made today. If you often find yourself wearing pieces until they fall apart, I recommend shopping vintage, as they’re more likely to withstand wear.

Give Your Wallet a Break

Shopping vintage is often a lot more affordable than shopping from current brands. Vintage is usually discounted from typical high street prices. You can get some amazing pieces for half the price.

Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. Comment down below with your best vintage find. Don’t let being in lockdown stop you from shopping vintage either! Some places you can shop vintage online during this lockdown include: Etsy, Vestiare Collective, ASOS, Beyond Retro, or Thrifted.com. Special shout out to Lucy for taking these photos for me. If you need any photos taken, be sure to go to her. She’s a dream! Remember to check back next week for another blog post and have a productive week guys!
